Top 5 Movies to Watch on Labor Day

There is no doubt that the Egyptian cinema and TV series did not leave any class in our society without addressing their ordeals in a drama or in cinematic production.

With the arrival of labor day, which is marked annually on May 1st,  several Arab satellite channels screen a number of movies that deal with workers' lives, crises, causes, and triumph.

Here are five great movies to watch on labor day:

“El Aydi el Naema” (The soft hands)

It is a 1964 Egyptian comedy movie, that was based on a play of the same name written by Egyptian playwright Tawfiq al-Hakim.

Soft hands is directed by Mahmoud Zulfikar and co-star Sabah, Salah Zulfikar, Ahmed Mazhar, Mariam Fakhr Eddine, Laila Taher, Wedad Hamdy, and others.

The plot revolves around a formerly landed aristocrat dispossessed by the 1952 Egyptian Revolution, and an Arabic Ph.D. holder, soon the aristocrat, with the help of his combination and others, helped him to face reality and change himself.

"Lel Regal Faqat" (For men only)

It is considered as one of the most important movies in its time, as it addresses a cotemporary thought, not many had tackled, which highlighted women's ability to work in jobs reserved for men only, which was prohibited at that time, is punished with prison time.

For men only is a 1964 Egyptian rom-com movie, which was written and directed by Mahmoud Zulfikar.

The movie stars Soad Hosny, Nadia Lutfi, Hassan Youssef, Ihab Nafea, Amal Ramzy, Youssef Shabaan, Souheir Magdy, and others.

For men only revolves around two women chemical engineers disguise themselves as men to get assigned on a mission to explore new oil wells in the desert, however, things get more complicated when they start to fall for their colleagues, who think they are men.

”El Nemr el Aswad” (The black panther)

It is a 1984 Egyptian drama-sports movie that revolves around an Egyptian boxer who immigrated to Germany to achieve his dreams. He eventually became a professional boxer in Germany and his fans titled him “the black panther”, with the help of his coach and neighbor.

The movie stars Ahmed Zaky, Ahmed Mazhar, Wafa Salem, Youssef Fawzi, Ahmed Abu el-Fath, Bashir Deek, and others. It is directed by Atef Salem.

"Fatat el Masnaa" (Factory girl)

It is a 2014 Egyptian drama-romance movie, directed by Mohammed Khan, revolves around the different struggles of females working in fabric and clothing factories.

It co-starring Yasmin Raeis, Salwa Khattab, Salwa Mohammed Ali Hany Adel, and others.

"El Ard" (The land)

The Egyptian farmers' societal was portrayed in renowned director Youssef Chahine’s "El Ard", which discussed the suffering of the Egyptian farmer who would rather die than abandon his land, which is the honor of the farmer.

It was inspired by writer Abdul Rahman al-Sharqawi's novel that bears the same name.

"El Ard" starring Mahmoud el-Meligy, Ezzat Alayli, Najwa Ibrahim, and others.
