About 1 am (Cairo time), Wednesday (May 7, 2025), the earliest reports indicated that India launched a military operation against Pakistan. India claimed that it attacked a number of “terrorist infrastructure” in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
This step formed a new development in the escalating relations between India and Pakistan in the recent weeks following a deadly fire attack that caused the death of 26 people at a scenic spot in Kashmir.
India said nine sites in total were targeted. On its side, Pakistan said that five locations were attacked, including three in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and two in Pakistan’s Punjab province.
Pakistan's Minister of Defence revealed that at least three people were killed.
After that attack, the X account of the Indian Army posted “Justice is Served."
On the other hand, Pakistan’s army claimed that it shot down two Indian Air Force aircraft.
Spokesperson for the Pakistani Military Forces Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry told CNN: “There are two confirmed aircraft of the Indian Air Force have already been shot down."
He added: “There are other reports of multiple damages that the Pakistani forces, both on ground and air, have inflicted. But I can confirm you at least two aircraft of Indian Air Force that have been downed."
Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said the country “has every right to give a befitting reply to this act of war imposed by India and a befitting reply is being given.”
A military spokesperson said that Pakistan “will respond to it at a time and place of its own choosing.”
Media reports, cited by CNN, indicated that a blast was heard in the city of Srinagar in Indian-administered Kashmir.
The cause of the blast is not yet known.
The Guardian reported that cross-border firing continues across the line of control between Pakistani-Kashmir and Indian-administered Kashmir after the latest operations by India.
