Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has officially accepted the Democratic nomination for vice president of the United States.
Addressing the Democratic Party convention in Chicago, Walz expressed his deep honor and gratitude for the opportunity to run for the nation's second-highest office.
Walz extended thanks to Vice President Kamala Harris for the nomination and to President Joe Biden for his "strong, historic leadership" over the past four years.
As Minnesota’s governor, Walz has enacted significant legislation, including measures to protect abortion rights, legalize recreational marijuana, and impose stricter firearm regulations.
He has also been vocal in his criticisms of the Republican Party and its presidential candidate, Donald Trump, while denouncing Russia’s military actions and the October 7 attack by HAMAS on Israel. He emphasized the need for humanitarian aid to Gaza.
The US presidential election is scheduled for November 5. Biden, initially set to represent the Democrats, withdrew from the race in July following a poor debate performance, endorsing Harris as his successor.
The Republican National Convention has nominated Donald Trump for president and Ohio Senator James David Vance for vice president.
