The Ethiopian official agency has released on Saturday the details of the phone call that took place between the Ethiopian Foreign Minister, Demeke Mekonnen, and his Israeli counterpart, Gabi Ashkenazi.

According to the agency, during the conversation, Mekonnen briefed his Israeli counterpart on the goals of the federal government of Ethiopia in the law enforcement operation in the Tigray region, and claimed that the process will maintain constitutional order and ensure the rule of law in the region.

Mekonnen said that a culture of impunity should not be allowed to continue, adding that the Tigrayans must also be freed from the grip of the TPLF gang.

He also stated that the operation will work to enhance the absence of heavy and long-range weapons owned by the “Popular Front gang”, provide the necessary assistance to the injured members of the Ethiopian Defense Force, and bring the crimes’ perpetrators to justice.

Regarding the ongoing negotiations on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), led by the African Union, the two ministers reiterated that the outstanding issues will receive friendly solutions, according to Addis Ababa.

Mekonnen also expressed his gratitude to the Israeli government for sending a "special task force to combat the desert locust" and confront the spread of locust swarms.

The two sides stressed that Addis Ababa and Tel Aviv should expand the existing relations between the two countries.
