TICAD7: Sisi, Abe Discuss Bilateral Relations

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met earlier Wednesday, Japanese Prime Minister (PM) Shinzo Abe, in the presence of delegations from both countries, on the sidelines of the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7) held Yokohama city.

At the outset of the meeting, Abe welcomed President Sisi, thanking him for accepting the invitation to co-chair with him TICAD 7, according to Presidency spokesman Bassam Radi.

 

Moreover, Japanese PM hailed Egypt’s successful economic reforms, and the implementation of major national projects, which significantly contributed to encouraging Japanese companies to expand their business in Egypt to take advantage of the available promising investment opportunities.

“Japan attaches special importance to its relations with Egypt at the economic and political levels , due to Egypt pivotal role in the region and most particularly the Middle East area,” Abe said.

On his part, President Sisi expressed appreciation to Abe for his warm reception and hospitality accorded to him and his accompanying delegation.

 

“I was keen to visit Japan to co-chair TICAD7 summit, within the framework of  efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation and strategic relations between Cairo and Tokyo,” Sisi said. “The Japanese-African partnership is of utmost importance as it aims to achieve the comprehensive development and to fulfill African peoples' aspirations to enjoy stability and prosperity.”

In addition, the meeting tackled a number of files related to bilateral cooperation between both countries in various fields, including: basic and higher education, culture, technology, energy and transport, as well as the implementation of  Egyptian Grand Museum (GEM) project, which represents an icon of cultural and civilizational cooperation between the two countries.

 

Both leaders reviewed a number of key regional and international issues of common interests. In this regard, Abe expressed his country’s full support for Egypt's efforts in combating terrorism and extremism in the Middle East.

Noteworthy, Sisi and Abe will co-chair the inaugural session of TICAD 7 that will kick off later today Wednesday 28/8/2019.

Egypt is taking part in the conference as the current chairman of the African Union.
