Egypt’s Minister of Manpower Hassan Shehata announced that next Thursday, 4 May, will be a paid day off for private sector employees on the occasion of Labor Day.
It remains up to employers, however, to choose not to give that day off to employees due to working conditions, the minister said, noting that in such cases employees should receive twice their daily wages.
On this occasion, Shehata extended greetings to Egyptian workers and hailed their national role in pushing the wheel of production forward and achieving comprehensive sustainable development in various sectors, under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
Moreover, all banks across Egypt will be off next Thursday on the occasion and will resume activities on Sunday, 7 April.
Egypt observes Labor Day on 1 May but may move the date to the first Thursday of May to make a long weekend.
