Three people were killed after a passenger train collided with a truck in the Irkutsk Region in East Siberia, the press office of the East Siberian Railways reported on Sunday, Mehr news agency reported.
At a railway crossing between the Yantal and Lena stations of the East Siberian Railways, a truck driver drove onto the railroad crossing before approaching train No. 91 bound for Moscow from Severobaikalsk. The train driver used emergency brakes but the distance was insufficient and the collision could not be avoided.
According to preliminary information, both members of the train team, the driver and his assistant, and the truck driver died in the accident, the press office said.
The train passengers have not applied for medical assistance. According to the data of the regional interior branch, a truck passenger has been hospitalized in severe condition, TASS reported.
An investigative team is working at the scene to establish the circumstances of the accident.
