X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, experienced a widespread outage on Friday morning, leaving tens of thousands of users unable to access the app.
According to outage-tracking website Downdetector, more than 70,000 users reported problems accessing X as of around 10:00 am ET on Friday, January 16.
The majority of complaints, approximately 56%, were related to the mobile application.
Reports of the outage came from across the United States, with particularly high numbers recorded in major cities including New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Houston.
This marks the second service disruption for X in the same week.
On Tuesday, January 13, more than 24,000 users reported issues with the platform. That outage began around 9:20 am ET and was resolved by approximately 10:00 am ET.
The cause of Friday’s outage remains unclear. However, the platform has faced infrastructure-related challenges in recent months.
In November and December, internet services provider Cloudflare suffered two separate outages that affected several major platforms, including X, LinkedIn, Fortnite, and DoorDash.
As of the latest update, X had not issued an official statement explaining the disruption.
