Tens of thousands of residents in New South Wales, Australia, faced power outages on Saturday as a low-pressure system brought torrential rain and destructive winds, sparking flood warnings across the region.

Utility company Ausgrid reported that about 28,000 people in Sydney, the state capital and Australia’s largest city, were left without electricity.

Nearby Newcastle and the Hunter region also saw outages affecting around 15,000 people.

The State Emergency Service (SES) confirmed receiving 2,825 calls for assistance since Friday, with most incidents involving fallen trees and property damage caused by strong winds.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued widespread warnings for flooding, heavy rainfall, and winds reaching up to 100 kilometers per hour, particularly in mountainous areas.

These disruptions follow last week’s severe storms that felled trees, downed power lines, and left 200,000 people without power in New South Wales.

Local media reports underscore the ongoing challenges faced by residents as they brace for further weather-related disruptions.
