More than 22,000 people have been evacuated across Luzon as Tropical Storm Ramil brought heavy rain and strong winds to the southern and central parts of the island, Philippine authorities reported on Sunday.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), a total of 22,311 residents were relocated from the regions of Calabarzon and Bicol as local governments implemented precautionary measures ahead of the storm’s landfall.
The report was published by the Philippine newspaper The Star on Sunday.
The storm also disrupted transportation across the country, affecting at least 39 seaports and leaving 3,242 passengers, 1,050 cargo trucks, and six vessels stranded.
Despite the mass evacuations and travel disruptions, officials said no damage to infrastructure or agriculture had been reported so far.
