On Friday, the Chinese authorities evacuated about 300,000 people from their homes in some areas in the east of the country after Hurricane Jamie struck, accompanied by heavy rains.

Channel News Asia reported in its English-language bulletin that the authorities transferred more than 290,000 people in Fujian Province to shelters, and also suspended public transportation and closed businesses, schools, and shops in some cities. As for Zhejiang Province, floods Rainwater accompanying the hurricane also fell on many roads, and about seven thousand people were evacuated from their homes in the city of Wenzhou.

The channel indicated that the hurricane will cause heavy rains in Jiangxi and Henan provinces, and the authorities in Guangdong province have suspended some passenger train services today ahead of the hurricane.

There have been no reports yet of deaths or injuries resulting from Hurricane Jamie in China.
