"Thor: Love and Thunder" Filming Begins in Australia

On Tuesday, filming began on "Thor: Love and Thunder", the fourth installment in the Thor franchise, and the second Thor movie directed by Taika Waititi.

Thor lead star Chris Hemsworth announced on Instagram that filming kicked off in Australia with a post about Australia Day. Defying expectations that he would only get three solo MCU movies, Hemsworth is returning once more to play Thor in "Thor: Love and Thunder".

The movie will see him reunite with his "Thor: Ragnarok" director Waititi, who will also reprise his Korg for the film.

"Thor: Love and Thunder" were expected to begin production last year, but the coronavirus pandemic pushed things back. Once planned for release later this year, Love and Thunder will now debut in May 2022.

It also features a new addition to the MCU, which is as Christian Bale's villain, Gorr the God Butcher who will be joined by a slew of familiar faces. Natalie Portman will be returning as Jane Foster, as will Tessa Thomspon as Valkyrie, Taika Waititi as Korg, and Jaimie Alexander reprising as Sif.

The movie will also feature the entire Guardians of the Galaxy roster sans Gamora (Zoe Saldana), all of whom have been in Australia for quite some time. Additionally, Matt Damon was spotted in the area, perhaps suggesting his Actor Loki from Ragnarok will be back for another cameo.

It is shaping up to be an Avengers-sized ensemble and looks to explore Thor's dynamic relationship with the characters. Thor's dynamic with the Rocket Raccoon and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy was one of the highlights of "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Avengers: Endgame".
