This amount paid by an American buyer exceeded the estimates published before the auction for the price of the watch, which ranged between 100,000 and 150,000 British pounds ($124,000 to 187,000 dollars).
The amount paid also exceeded the record price achieved to date for the sale of any item related to the Titanic ship at auction, which was 1.1 million pounds sterling, paid in 2013 to purchase a violin, according to the auction house.
The violin case was sold on Saturday for 360,000 pounds ($449,000) during the same auction in which the watch was sold.
