Today Egypt marks its Valentine's Day. The idea of marking the 4th of November as a national day of love and tolerance in Egypt was suggested by the late legendary journalist and columnist Mustafa Amin in 1988.

Amin suggested in his ageless "Fikra" (An Idea) column at Akhbar Elyoum newspaper the necessity of marking a day of love between Egyptians.

Moreover, he was supported by a huge number of Egyptian readership.

With regard to choosing the 4th of November, his daughter Safia expressed in an interview that one day, her father watched 3 persons witnessing the burial of a dead man.

Amin was shocked as Egyptians always take part in those occasions so what are the reasons for such a change in heart!

Then, he proposed the idea of marking the day of this horrific situation as an Egyptian Valentine's Day to spread principles of love, tolerance, and acceptance.

Worth mentioning that the universal Valentine's Day takes place annually on the 14th of February, honoring the execution of the Priest Valentine who witnessed the marriage of many Roman couples secretly breaking the laws issued by the Roman Emperor Aurelian in the third century.
