On May 21, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in an online meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council.

Uzbekistan received the status of an observer state with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) during the summit of this Organization on December 11, 2020.

Over the past period, a Memorandum of Cooperation and a three-year Action Plan for its implementation were signed between Uzbekistan and the Eurasian Economic Commission. Representatives of Uzbekistan participate in various multilateral events of the EAEU. In April of this year, a meeting of the Council for Industrial Policy of the EAEU and the international exhibition "Innoprom" were held in the city of Tashkent.

The current meeting of the Supreme Council was chaired by the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The First President of Kazakhstan Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev, Acting Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, President of Russia Vladimir Putin, President of Cuba Miguel Bermudez and Chairman of the Board of the EAEU Mikhail Myasnikovich also attended the meeting.

The agenda of the event included topical issues of practical cooperation in various sectors of the economy, as well as improving the activities of the EAEU.

In his speech, the President of Uzbekistan highlighted the most important tasks, the solution of which requires coordinated approaches.

In particular, the following are emphasized:

- significant potential for further building up trade relations by removing barriers and converging non-tariff trade regulation measures;

- the importance of deepening industrial cooperation between leading enterprises and regions of our countries, promoting projects in the real sector of the economy and ensuring food security, with the involvement of the Eurasian Development Bank;

- solving topical issues in the transport and transit sphere and expanding mutual preferences in order to increase the volume of cargo transportation.

It was proposed to resume regular air and rail links between the countries of the region taking into account the stabilization of the epidemiological situation and mass vaccination.

In addition, the possibility of connecting Uzbekistan to the digital platforms of the EAEU on tax and customs administration, industry, labor migration and tourism is being considered. Opportunities for cooperation in a number of other priority areas are being studied.

In conclusion, the President of Uzbekistan once again emphasized the importance of achieving concrete and tangible results of the interaction of Uzbekistan with the Eurasian Economic Union as an observer state.
