The New York Times sold on Thursday a 170-year old article, in the form of a non-fungible token (NFT), for about $560,000.
The auction was announced in a column by Kevin Roose, who serves as an explanation for the NFT and a sales line about why someone would purchase the article, according to The Verge.
The New York Times has put a few additions to boost the deal. A PNG from the article will be offered as well as a congratulatory audio note to the buyer will also be sent from the daily podcast host and featured in a follow-up article about the selling.

"As with many branded NFTs, the proceeds from the sale will go to charity," The Verge added.
The NFT is a unit of data stored on a blockchain, which can represent a unique digital item.
