The Israeli Knesset approved, in its first reading, a bill that limits some of the powers of the Supreme Court.

And the judicial reform bill, put forward by the national-religious coalition led by Netanyahu, aims to reduce the powers of the Supreme Court in Israel.

Critics believe that this measure will open the door to abuse of power, while the opposition considers this project a step to undermine the independence of the judiciary, which ultimately makes the Supreme Court subject to the wishes of politicians.

On Monday evening, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected "President Isaac Herzog's proposal regarding judicial legislation and postponing amendments to it."

And Israeli media reported that Netanyahu sent a message to the Israeli president, saying: "I will not stop judicial legislation."

On Sunday, Netanyahu hinted that his patience was running out because of the turmoil caused by new protests against plans for judicial reforms.

The Israeli prime minister, who is facing corruption charges, considers that the judicial amendments aim to restore the balance between the branches of power and curb the Supreme Court's abuses of its powers.

The vote on this project comes after the suspension of negotiations between the government and the opposition, which was seeking to settle the issue last month.
