The Israeli Army Announces Killing , Injuring of 11 5 Soldiers During Battles in Gaza This Evening

The Israeli army announced, on Saturday evening, that 5 of its soldiers were killed, and 6, including two officers, were seriously injured, as a result of battles in the northern Gaza Strip. This came in a statement by the army published on its official website.

The army said: “Major (res.) Matan Meir, 38 years old, from Udim (north), a fighter in the 697th Battalion, 551st Brigade, fell in a battle in the northern Gaza Strip.”

The army added: “Major (res.) Moshe Yedya Leiter, 39 years old, from Ein Zorim, member of the 697th Battalion, 551st Brigade, served as a platoon commander in the Shildag unit, and fell in a battle in the northern Gaza Strip.”

Also, according to the army statement, Sergeant Yosef Haim (Yossi) Hershkowitz, 44 years old, Sergeant Sergei Shmerkin, 32 years old, and Major (res.) Netanel (Nati) Harush, 34 years old, was killed in the battles in northern Gaza.

Thus, the Israeli army's announced death toll since the beginning of the ground operation in the Gaza Strip, on October 27, rose to 43.
