The Economist: NATO Summit Won’t Grant Membership to Ukraine, But Long-Term Guarantees

The upcoming summit of leaders of the member-states of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) will not grant membership to Ukraine, but it is expected to offer long-term guarantees, The Economist reported.

The magazine affirmed that the Western allies were going to supply Kyiv with weapons, intelligence, and aid for years to come.

However, NATO refuses reluctantly to accept Ukraine as a member of the alliance despite the insistence of the Ukrainian government.

In September 2022, Ukraine submitted a request to join NATO.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged the July 11-12 NATO summit in Vilnius to grant his country membership in the Western military alliance.

Zelensky added that Ukraine needs over the NATO summit a very clear signal assures Ukraine will be a full member of the alliance after the ongoing war with Russia.
