Debicki is replacing Emma Corrin, who played Princess Diana in season 4.

The season featured the princess meeting and marrying a young Prince Charles (Josh O’Connor) and dealing with the stress of worldwide fame.

It also highlighted the princess's struggle with an eating disorder and her affair with James Hewitt (Daniel Donskoy) after learning of Charles’ romance with Camilla Parker Bowles (Emerald Fennel).

Season 5 also stars Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II, Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret, and Jonny Lee Miller as John Major.

Fans have taken to social media and largely expressed positive reactions to how the stars look in the roles.

One commented that it was “excellent casting” while another stated, “the casting is always perfect on The Crown”.

“The Crown” premiered in 2016 and centered around the royal family through several periods, starting in the late 1940s and early 1950s with Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s marriage and early careers.

The series will conclude with season 6, taking the series up to the early 2000s.
