Thailand’s imprisoned former leader Thaksin Shinawatra was moved to a hospital in the early hours of Wednesday, the day after he returned from exile, due to concerns over his health, the director-general of Thailand's prison department said.
Director Ayuth Sentopant added that the prison asked the doctors to diagnose his condition and they recommended that he be transferred to the police hospital for his safety.
The assistant national police chief, Lt. Gen. Prachuap Wongsuk, had said the prison lacked the medical equipment needed to treat Thaksin.
Thaksin, 74, returned to his country on Tuesday, finally fulfilling his promises to return to Thailand after 15 years in self-imposed exile.
