Mohamed Farid Khamis, the founder of the Oriental Weavers Company, passed away on Saturday in the United States. In June, he underwent a precise surgery in the USA.

Khamis’s Oriental Weavers is one of the largest carpet manufacturers in the world. He was born in Bella city in Kafr El-Sheikh governorate in April 1940. He is married and has a son and two daughters.

It is worth mentioning that Khamis established oriental weaver in 1980 after obtaining a Bachelor of Commerce and later postgraduate studies in the textile industry from the US.

The Oriental Weavers operates in Egypt and has two other factories in China and the United States, employing around 22,600 workers.

He owns a group of companies operating in several fields other than the carpet industry, such as Orientals Petrochemicals and Orientals for Urban Development.

Orientals for Urban Development (OUD) was established in 1994 to capitalize on the real estate boom in Egypt. As an Egyptian joint-stock company, it falls under the umbrella of Oriental Weavers and has 26 sister companies in various industries and fields.
