China's National Market Regulation Authority announced on Friday that Tesla has initiated a recall of 1.62 million vehicles in China, including models such as Model S, Model X, Model 3, and Model Y.
This recall comes in the second-largest market for Tesla after two similar recalls were conducted by the company in the United States in December.
The authority stated in a press release that Tesla can remotely update the vehicles to address the identified issues.
This action is categorized as a recall under Chinese regulations. The American automaker will remotely update approximately 1.61 million vehicles.
According to the authority, some of these vehicles include imported Model S and Model X, as well as Chinese-made Model 3 and Model Y, produced between 2014 and 2023.
Additionally, Tesla will conduct separate software updates for about 7,538 Model S and Model X vehicles to rectify a problem with doors that may open in the event of accidents.
In the United States, Tesla initiated a recall of over two million vehicles to implement new safety measures in the Autopilot system after safety concerns were raised by a federal regulatory agency.
Furthermore, the company recalled slightly over 120,000 Model S and Model X vehicles in the United States due to the risk of doors opening in the event of accidents.
