A new Teqball Federation is set to be launched after the Ministry of Sports and Youth announced on Wednesday a long partnership with Teqball international federation (FITEQ).
Minister of Sports and Youth Ashraf Sobhi reiterated the government and Olympic Movement's commitment to bringing on-board mechanisms that will help Egyptian youths refrain from harmful vices in their lives.
Talking to Sky News Arabia, Minister said: "I think that Egypt as a country needs to build on this achievement by this young generation from Egyptian footballers so that it will become a generally accepted sport in Egypt. It will also be a medal hopeful even in Africa or the world at large."
Sobhi also said that having a new sport will provide more variety to choose from.
In this regard, the Minister indicated that Teqball intends to gain a new foothold in Egypt and strengthen the nation's budding sports industry.
The Egyptian Teqball Federation will be one of 34 in Africa and will be committed to ensuring Teqball has a wider social impact in the country, according to Sky News Arabia.
Lately, Teqball has been classified as an Olympic sport, it will be an avenue to win medals for the country.
On the other hand, the former Zamalek player Samy ElShecheni said: "Teqball is still looking for a place in Egypt's crowded sports landscape, but it isn't short of admirers.
"Combining elements of football and table tennis, the latest sport is fast attracting followers from Africa and Egypt," he added.
According to FITEQ, Teqball is played on a table while football is played on a pitch or field. Teqball can be played by one player or two players. Even three players can also play the recent game as a team.
