Tensions in Venezuela Cast a Shadow Over Neighboring Countries…

Indonesian Entrepreneurs Association Calls on Villages for Vigilance and Restraint

Amid geopolitical developments involving Venezuela and the United States, the Indonesian Association of Village Entrepreneurs (IVEA/APUDSI) has issued a statement calling for vigilance and restraint.

In this context, Moulidan Esper, President of APUDSI and Chair of the National Welfare Council (NWC), stressed the need to adopt a rational, data-driven reading of events, particularly for economic actors in rural areas.

According to APUDSI, although these developments are unfolding far from Indonesia, they are part of a global dynamic whose effects may extend to the local level. In an increasingly interconnected global economy, geopolitical tensions directly affect energy prices, logistics costs, and the stability of global supply chains.

A Global Economy Already Marked by Fragility

The statement noted that the global economy entered 2026 facing a state of structural fragility. Energy markets are receiving conflicting signals: on the one hand, the risk of oversupply; on the other, extreme sensitivity to geopolitical tensions. This overlap leads to volatility that can quickly turn into tangible disruptions affecting local economies.

In this regard, Venezuela remains a major source of uncertainty. Despite possessing vast oil reserves, the country has for years struggled to fully exploit its potential due to challenges related to investment, governance, and political stability.

For Indonesia, this issue is not without impact, as national logistics costs still depend heavily on global energy prices. Any significant fluctuations could affect businesses, including those operating at the village level.

Information Overload and the Risks of Hasty Reactions

APUDSI also warned against the saturation of the public sphere with unreliable information. Images taken out of context, fragmented narratives, and emotionally charged content can shape public perceptions and lead to impulsive decisions.

In his message, Moulidan Esper emphasized that this media climate requires heightened vigilance, especially from village entrepreneurs, cooperatives, and village-owned enterprises (BUMDes), which often operate on narrow profit margins. Fluctuations in energy and logistics prices can directly affect production and distribution costs, as well as the financial liquidity of these small economic structures.

Open Scenarios for the Village Economy

The statement outlines several possible scenarios. If tensions ease, markets may return to a more realistic assessment of the situation, acknowledging that reviving Venezuela’s energy sector will be gradual and contingent upon achieving lasting stability. In this scenario, the current instability could prove temporary.

However, if uncertainty persists, it could lead to a sustained rise in logistics costs and increasing pressure on the purchasing power of local communities. Nevertheless, APUDSI notes that in the medium term, a process of global stabilization combined with increased global energy supply could open prospects for reducing distribution costs and enhancing economic efficiency within villages.

Data, Restraint, and Responsibility

APUDSI concluded its statement by calling—through its president—on all economic actors and decision-makers to place reliable data, composure, and ethical responsibility at the heart of the decision-making process.

The organization reminds that an interconnected world means even local reactions can contribute to broader dynamics that may ultimately feed back into local economies themselves.

APUDSI also reaffirms its commitment to continuing to support village economic institutions through responsible economic communication and rigorous analysis, in order to safeguard the sustainability of local economies, which constitute a fundamental pillar of national resilience.
