The public prosecutor on the French island of Oléron in the Atlantic Ocean said that a 35-year-old man deliberately rammed his car into pedestrians and cyclists on the island on Wednesday, injuring ten people, four of them seriously.
Public Prosecutor Arnaud Larraize explained that the driver, a resident of the island, "deliberately struck several pedestrians and cyclists" on a road near the town of La Rochelle, suggesting a premeditated motive.
French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez confirmed that the perpetrator had been arrested, while authorities continue their investigation to determine the motives behind the attack.
