Diplomat: Teaching Chinese in Egyptian Schools Being Considered

Liao Liqiang, the Chinese ambassador in Egypt, stated that adding the Chinese Language as an optional second language in schools' curricula in Egypt, has been recently considered an interest.

This is what he believed to be a true reflection of how the Chinese-Egyptian ties are deeply rooted, in addition to the concern given to developing it in the future through younger generations.

Liqiang’s words came during the Egyptian culture celebration of China's National Day on October the first.

The celebration took place in a series of cultural relations symposiums launched by Dr. Inas Abdul Dayem, the minister of culture, and by the regulation of both the supreme council of culture and the foreign cultural relations.

The Ambassador added that hundreds of the cultural and artistic events, where both countries participate on either the Chinese or the Egyptian lands, emphasizing the strength of the relations and clarify the real image of China.

He noted to the great love that the Chinese people have for Egypt, especially for their resemblance in both history and civilization that extend for thousands of years. Furthermore, Egypt is the first country from the East and Africa to establish diplomatic relations with China.

He pointed out that China will never forget the visit of Dr. Hala Zayed, the minister of health, to China in the last March that president Abdel Fattah El Sisi had directed her to support China during COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition, Liqiang said that China will never forget the lighting of three major monuments in Egypt with the Chinese flag as well. In return, China has assisted Egypt with shipments of medical aids in addition to the civil society organizations and companies that donated to Egypt.

"All the previous relations emphasize how we could get over the geographical area that will last forever,” he said. The Chinese ambassador continued “I have visited Egypt 15 months ago, and as the Egyptians say, whoever drinks from the Nile, will return back to it.

I am saying that whoever visits Egypt will always have feelings for it. I have touched the beauty of the Egyptian civilization and I fell in love with it.

I have read the literary works of Ahmed Shawky and heard the songs of Umm Kulthum too, and I think that all the Chinese people who visit Egypt feel the same.

On the other hand, Dr. Hesham Azmy, president of the Supreme Council for Culture, has congratulated the Chinese ambassador on the occasion of China’s national day by saying “It is fortunate that the celebration of China’s national day coincides with our country’s victory of October war that is considered our national day too, just like how both countries have two of the oldest civilizations ever know to the world.”
