Tanzania has reported its first confirmed case of monkeypox, as announced by Health Minister Elia Mchemba on Thursday.
The case was identified in Chitambo District, where a 32-year-old male patient tested positive for the virus.
According to local media outlet Digarz News, the patient sought medical attention after experiencing muscle pain, fatigue, and a sore throat.
These initial symptoms were followed by a rash that began on the face and later spread to other parts of the body.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has previously classified mpox as a public health emergency of international concern, given the potential for rapid transmission.
Mpox is a rare viral infection that primarily affects those with weakened immune systems.
Common symptoms include fever, swollen lymph nodes, and a rash, often characterized by blisters forming on the skin.
