The Taliban shot and murdered a family member of one of Deutsche Welle's (DW) reporters in Afghanistan, according to the German public broadcaster. A second family member was critically injured.

Taliban gunmen were seeking for the DW reporter and scouring homes in western Afghanistan, the broadcaster reported in a statement on Thursday. Other members of the family, according to the report, were able to flee.

“The killing of a close family member of one of our journalists by the Taliban is incredible tragic and a proof for the imminent danger that all of our workers and their families are exposed to in Afghanistan,” said Peter Limbourg, the director of Deutsche Welle.

“The Taliban are obviously conducting organized searches for journalists in Kabul and the provinces. Time is running out,” he continued. “The clock is ticking.”

In recent days and weeks, the Taliban raided the residences of at least three additional Deutsche Welle reporters in Afghanistan, according to Limbourg.
