Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the Taliban government, said that the leader of the movement, Mullah Hebatullah Akhundzada, has banned the cultivation of cannabis (hashish) throughout Afghanistan.
Mujahid said in a tweet via his official account on Twitter, Saturday, that Hebatullah Akhundzada, the leader of the Taliban, has banned the cultivation of cannabis.
Cannabis, known in Afghanistan as "bith jeras", is used to produce a variety of addictive products, including hashish, marijuana and weed.
The United Nations Office on Drugs reported in a report in November last year that since the Taliban regained power, poppy cultivation in Afghanistan has increased by more than 30 percent, and income from its products has tripled.
