Syria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Qusay Al-Dahhak, confirmed that the Syrian mission at the UN continues to follow government directives and that Foreign Minister Bassam Al-Sabbagh remains in Damascus.
Speaking to reporters, Al-Dahhak noted that Syrian diplomats are awaiting the formation of a new government but continue to operate under the current administration, according to Russia's RIA Novosti news agency.
He added that he receives and implements instructions from Foreign Minister Al-Sabbagh in Damascus.
The ambassador emphasized that Syrian diplomats are actively attending UN meetings, working as part of state institutions, and continuing to represent the Syrian people.
Al-Dahhak reiterated that the Syrian mission would maintain cooperation with the United Nations across all areas, including humanitarian assistance, to help restore stability and security.
Syria experienced dramatic developments early Sunday as Syrian armed factions announced their entry into Damascus, and President Bashar Al-Assad departed the country, relinquishing his position and issuing instructions for a peaceful transfer of power, as stated by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Meanwhile, Syrian Prime Minister Mohammed Al-Jallali expressed his readiness to cooperate with any leadership chosen by the Syrian people.
