Syrian President Bashar al-Assad cast his vote today, Monday, in the elections for the fourth legislative term of the People's Assembly at a polling station in Damascus.
Judge Jihad Murad, head of the election committee, stated to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) that polling stations opened their doors to voters at 7 a.m. local time and will remain open until 7 p.m. the same day.
Murad mentioned that Article 64 of the law allows the committee to extend the voting period by up to five hours in all or some polling stations. He explained that there are 8,151 polling centers, selected based on a thorough study considering large residential and labor communities.
Murad noted that there are 1,516 candidates running for seats in the People's Assembly, with 409 in sector (A) and 1,107 in sector (B), competing for 250 seats. He confirmed that the vote counting process will begin immediately after the polls close.
The Supreme Judicial Committee for Elections in Syria announced today, Monday, the opening of polling stations across all provinces for voters to elect members of the People's Assembly for the fourth legislative term.
