Today, the Syrian government expressed its deep regret over the arson fire that broke out in the Syrian refugee camp in the Hanin region of the Miniyeh district in northern Lebanon.

An official source in the Syrian Foreign Ministry indicated through a statement published on the ministry’s account on "Telegram" that the fire had terrified the camp’s residents and deprived a number of them of shelter.

The source added that "Syria calls upon competent Lebanese judiciary and  concerned agencies to assume their responsibilities in dealing with such accident, as well as providing protection and care for the displaced Syrians."

The source also renewed the Damascus government's call to the citizens who were "forced to leave the country due to the unjust war to return to their homeland," adding that "The government is exerting all the efforts needed to facilitate their return."

the Lebanese National News Agency previously reported that the camp was torched by a group of young men after a dispute between a resident and some Syrian workers that turned into a quarrel, resulting in the fall of 3 wounded.

Aid officials said, according to Reuters, that hundreds of Syrian refugees fled the camp after the fire.

In November, approximately 270 Syrian refugee families fled the northern Lebanese town of Bsharre after a Syrian national was accused of shooting dead a Lebanese resident, sparking widespread tension and hostility.

Tensions are common in Lebanon between citizens and Syrian refugees who have fled the war in their country.
