The Syrian military has warned that confrontations with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Aleppo have reached what it described as a “dangerous phase,” following a sharp rise in clashes and attacks in several districts of the city.
In a statement, the army accused SDF units of carrying out drone strikes and artillery fire on residential areas and public facilities, saying these actions posed a direct threat to civilians and critical infrastructure. It said its forces responded by targeting what it described as launch sites and military positions used in the attacks.
Fighting has been reported in and around key neighborhoods, including areas with a significant Kurdish population, as both sides exchanged fire and reinforced their positions. The military said some zones had been declared restricted areas for security reasons, urging civilians to stay away from active frontlines.
The escalation comes amid stalled political efforts to regulate relations between Damascus and the SDF and integrate Kurdish forces into national structures. Observers warn that continued clashes in a densely populated city like Aleppo could lead to further displacement and worsen the humanitarian situation.
Regional and international actors have called for restraint and a return to dialogue, warning that a wider confrontation would undermine fragile stability in northern Syria.
