Hours ago, the Syrian army announced that its units in Idlib and Aleppo provinces, northwest, have succeeded in regaining control over an area of more than 600 square km and liberated tens of villages, towns and strategic hills.

In an official statement, Army and Armed Forces General Command acknowledged that the forces continued their field advance to eliminate terrorist organizations which have escalated their acts of aggression against civilians and took them as human shields.

The statement explained that the forces advancing from Idlib eastern countryside have met the forces advancing from the direction of southern Aleppo, reestablishing control over the big area mentioned above.

Among the liberated villages is the strategic town of Tel-Ais, and thus the most important points leading to complete control of the international road "F5", linking Damascus to Aleppo, under the control of army forces. The remaining space for the army to fully control the road was reduced to 15 km, still under the control of the Turkish-backed militants.

On the other hand, the Turkish army sent additional military reinforcements to its checkpoints located inside Idlib governorate.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that during the last hours, more than 400 trucks carrying tanks, soldiers, military vehicles, weapons, ammunition and logistical equipment, entered the place.

Meanwhile, a Turkish security source said that 3 control points for the Turkish army are now in the area of the Syrian army's operations, but Turkish soldiers "do not face problems", stressing that each point is equipped to defend itself.

Earlier on Saturday, Russian officials had discussed in Ankara with Turkish officials boosting and pushing the political process forward and conducting new talks in the coming weeks. Sources said that the discussions focused as well on the Idlib memorandum signed in Sochi between the Turkish and Russian sides, especially with regard to Turkish observation points.
