Syria has assumed the rotating presidency of the Arab Group at the United Nations in New York, in a move aimed at strengthening coordination and collective action among Arab states within the international organization.
In a statement published on X, Syria’s permanent mission to the United Nations said it was proud to take on the role and pledged to work toward unifying Arab positions on key issues on the UN agenda. The mission said the presidency would focus on enhancing joint Arab engagement across political, humanitarian and development-related files.
Syria’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Ibrahim Alabi, held talks with the Permanent Observer of the League of Arab States to the UN, Ambassador Majed Abdel Fattah Abdel Aziz.
The meeting addressed the group’s priorities for the coming month and mechanisms to strengthen coordination among member states on a range of regional and international issues.
The Arab Group comprises all member states of the League of Arab States and plays a central role in coordinating diplomatic positions and presenting unified Arab stances across various UN bodies.
The group is designed to advance shared Arab interests and reinforce the collective Arab presence in international decision-making forums.
