At least nine people were killed when Syrian government forces shelled makeshift camps for displaced people in rebel-held Idlib province, according to a war monitor.

Today, Sunday, the Syrian government forces bombed tent settlements housing displaced families in Idlib Governorate, northwest of Syria, which is controlled by the rebels, according to a war monitor and first responders.

According to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, government forces fired about 30 rockets at rebel-held areas, including the Maram camp, killing at least nine people and injuring dozens. Among the dead were three children and a woman.

The opposition Syrian Civil Defense, known as the White Helmets, reported bombing at least six camps killing nine and wounding 70 others.

According to the pro-government Sham FM radio, Syrian government forces bombed the positions of the al-Qaida-linked Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group, the most powerful armed group in Idlib.

It added that Syrian and Russian warplanes also attacked the areas.

The observatory reported that the opposition factions responded by targeting government sites with artillery and missiles.

Idlib province, the last major rebel stronghold in Syria, is home to about three million people, about half of them displaced.
