The Swiss Foreign Ministry announced the reopening of its embassy in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, today, Tuesday, after 33 years of closure in 1991 due to the Second Gulf War.
The Swiss Foreign Ministry added in a statement: "By reopening the embassy, the Federal Council aims to strengthen bilateral relations and consolidate cooperation in the fields of economy, security and immigration." Regarding the tasks that the embassy will carry out, the Swiss Foreign Ministry said that "the embassy will focus on political and diplomatic matters," noting that the Swiss embassy in Jordan will continue to manage consular services .
