Switzerland is set to host a "peace conference" on Ukraine in 2024, according to President Viola Amherd.

In an interview with Schweiz am Wochenende, President Amherd emphasized the urgency of organizing this summit within the year.

While Russia's participation remains uncertain, Switzerland is actively seeking contact with other partners and maintaining dialogue with Moscow.

The format of the "peace conference" has yet to be determined, whether at the level of heads of states or ministers.

Amherd acknowledged that significant outcomes might not be immediately achieved, but the conference could serve as a starting point for the peace process.

The initiative for the conference followed a meeting between President Amherd and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on January 15.

Switzerland responded positively to Zelensky's request to host a high-level peace conference. Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis emphasized the importance of including Russia in the discussions regarding a peace settlement.

Despite not being part of NATO or the EU, Switzerland has been supportive of EU sanctions against Russia.

In 2022, Russia designated the Swiss Confederation among foreign states and territories engaging in unfriendly actions against Russia, its companies, and citizens.
