Switzerland has expressed its readiness to host a potential meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President-elect Donald Trump to discuss the ongoing Ukrainian conflict.

According to Swiss daily Le Temps, the country has consistently indicated its willingness to facilitate diplomatic efforts aimed at peace, following the Burgenstock summit.

Nicolas Bideau, a spokesperson for the Swiss Foreign Ministry, affirmed that Switzerland has been prepared to support any diplomatic initiative regarding a peace settlement, but emphasized that the Swiss authorities would not take the initiative in this matter.

Switzerland is among several nations on the list willing to serve as a neutral venue for the summit.

On January 10, Trump confirmed that preparations for a meeting with Putin were underway, aiming to resolve the Ukrainian crisis.

Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov expressed Moscow's readiness to meet without preconditions.

Switzerland has a history of hosting international diplomatic meetings, and this potential meeting follows the Burgenstock forum held in June 2024, though Russia was excluded from that event.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova criticized such forums, stating they fail to deliver meaningful peace solutions.
