Sweden’s biggest nuclear operator has unexpectedly shut down after suffering a fault in its turbine, media outlets reported on Wednesday.
Operated by Uniper, Oskarshamn 3 is vital to power supplies in southern Sweden.
Although the demand is temperated by unseasonably mild weather, the situation in Sweden is quite difficult and the shutdown made it even worse.
Uniper’s 1,400-megawatt facility halted completely at 10:43 a.m. local time after earlier running at a slightly lower capacity.
“We’re carrying out searches to see what the fault is,” said Uniper spokesman Torbjorn Larsson.
The firm aims to update the market within 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the weather is forecast to remain mild over the coming weekend before temperatures drop to cooler levels, according to Maxar.
