Sweden has announced plans to sell between 100 and 150 JAS 39 Gripen E fighter jets to Ukraine, according to Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.
The announcement followed the signing of a defense cooperation agreement with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Swedish media, including SVT, previously reported that the government aims to provide around 120 of the jets, suggesting that the deal could be financed using frozen Russian assets.
Prime Minister Kristersson described the plan as a first step toward a major export agreement between Sweden, SAAB, the manufacturer of the Gripen jets, and Ukraine.
The JAS 39 Gripen E represents the latest generation of Swedish fighter aircraft, featuring a more powerful engine, extended flight range, advanced radar systems, and upgraded electronic equipment.
