The gunman responsible for Sweden’s worst mass shooting, which claimed ten lives at an adult education center, appears to have shot himself, according to police.
However, the motive behind the attack remains unclear.
Authorities responded to the incident on Tuesday, where gunfire was heard upon their arrival. The large premises of the school complicated the search for additional victims, according to local police chief Roberto Eid Forest.
Among the injured, five victims underwent emergency surgery for gunshot wounds. While all are in serious but stable condition, two remain in intensive care. Another woman sustained minor injuries and is stable.
Police confirmed that all victims were adults and that the attacker acted alone, with no prior warnings or known links to terrorism.
The suspect’s home was searched following the attack, but authorities have not disclosed their findings.
As investigations continue, the nation grapples with the shock of an unprecedented act of violence.
