The motorcade of US President Donald Trump was forced to take an unusual route while departing Florida on Sunday after a suspicious object was detected during security checks ahead of his arrival at Palm Beach International Airport, the White House said.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in an official statement that the object was discovered during routine security screening operations at Palm Beach International Airport. The finding prompted additional on-site investigations and precautionary measures, including a temporary change to the presidential motorcade’s route to ensure safety.

Leavitt told US media that the rerouting was purely precautionary and in line with established security protocols applied whenever an unusual item is identified during protective operations.

Trump departed his Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach at around 6:20pm local time. While the journey to the airport typically takes about 10 minutes, the motorcade followed a longer, circular route around the city rather than the standard path.

During the journey, police implemented a moving security cordon using motorcycle units, while heightened protective measures were visibly in place. The presidential aircraft, Air Force One, was also parked in an atypical location within the airport grounds.

A spokesperson for the United States Secret Service confirmed that the route change was a standard precautionary response and stressed that no direct threat had been identified.

When asked by reporters about the nature of the suspicious object, Trump said he had no information about it. He later departed for Washington, D.C. without any significant delay once security procedures were completed.
