The detention of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al Baghdadi's wife was the beginning of his end, according to the US newspaper “New York Times”.

Al Baghdadi was killed in a US raid in northwestern Syria Saturday night, after igniting his suicide belt, killing himself, his two wives and 3 children.

Moreover, at least 2 ISIS militants were captured and 11 children were taken into custody by U.S. troops.

This military operation represents a blow against the terrorist organization.

How al Baghdadi’s wife contributed to his death?

The US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) received surprising information ahead of the “Kayla Mueller” military operation that ended with the killing of ISIS al-Baghdadi in a village called Barisha, near a Turkish base in the northern countryside of Idlib.

The (CIA) was able to identify al-Baghdadi's exact location after the arrest and interrogation of one of his wives and a courier he worked with last summer.

Identifying al-Baghdadi’s hideout

The CIA has worked closely with Iraqi and Kurdish intelligence officials in Iraq and Syria, to locate Baghdadi's most accurate location and put spies in place to monitor his periodic movements, allowing US special forces to launch an attack on Saturday evening.

After the success of the operation, US President Donald Trump announced the death of ISIS leader.

Kurds Role in Baghdadi’s Killing

President Trump praised the key role played by Kurds in the operation.

He revealed that they continued to provide information to the CIA on al-Baghdadi’s place even after the US’s decision to withdraw the American troops left the Syrian Kurds to confront a Turkish offensive alone.

Moreover, a US official said that Syrian and Iraqi Kurds provided more important information about the operation than any other country.

How was the operation planned?

Initial planning for the raid began last summer, as a commando unit of the Army Delta force began to develop training plans for a covert mission to kill or capture the ISIS leader, with enormous obstacles anticipated.

His location was deep inside al-Qaeda-controlled territory. The skies over this area are also under the control of Syria and Russia.

The US leadership canceled the operation at least two times at the last minute, according to New York Times newspaper.
