Supply Ministry Reveals New Price for Subsidized Sugar

Ali Al-Moselhi, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade announced an increase in the price of a kilo of subsidized sugar on the ration card as of next Saturday by 23.5% to reach EGP 10.5, compared to the current EGP 8.5 per kilo, while the price of industrial sugar will set at EGP 10,000 for the 50-kilo package.

Al-Moselhi pointed out during the press conference on Wednesday that the sugar company will supply at a price of EGP 10, provided that the profit of wholesale companies per kilo is 25 piastres, while the profit of the grocer’s supply is about the same value, pointing out that the prices of a kilo of sugar in the free market ranges between EGP 11-13.

Al-Moselhi confirmed that in the context of supporting the farmers, the price of supplying sugar cane was increased by about EGP 90, bringing the price of a ton to EGP 810 instead of EGP 720, and the cost premium was increased on a ton of beets to EGP 75, on average.
