The Minister of Supply Ali Al-Moselhi said that some food commodity prices, within the subsidy system, are no longer appropriate when compared with their peers in the local market.

During a press conference, the minister added that raising the price of these commodities, rice, cheese, oil and sugar, gradually has become an imperative to prevent a parallel market, noting that the last increase applied was in December.

He noted that the value of the individual subsidy, which is EGP 50, will not be raised, and the citizen must only buy essential commodities with the value of this subsidy.

It is worth noting that the price of a bottle of oil in the ration card is 25 pounds, while its price in the local market exceeded 40 pounds, and the price of rice is 14 pounds, while the kilo reached 30 pounds in the local market.

More over, Sugar in the subsidy system amounts to 10.5 pounds, while the kilo reached 20 pounds in the local market.
