“Supernatural,” the hit CW series starring Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, is getting a spinoff.
The network has given a script commitment to “The Winchesters”, a prequel that focuses on Sam and Dean Winchester’s parents, John and Mary.
John and Mary were portrayed on "Supernatural" as young adults by Matt Cohen and Amy Gumenick, while Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Samantha Smith played John and Mary as grown-ups.

It will be produced by Chaos Machine Productions, the production banner of Jensen and his wife Danneel Ackles, through their overall deal with Warner Bros. Television.
The show will be told from the perspective of the narrator, Dean, with Ackles reprising his role.
“The Winchesters” is centered around the epic, untold love story of how John and Mary and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love but also the entire world.
It is written and executivly produced by Robbie Thompson, who formerly co-executive produced the original source material. The Ackles will also executive producing along with Thompson.
Despite Ackles and Padalecki starred on Supernatural as the Winchester brothers for 15 years, the prequel will not feature Padalecki.
Padalecki shared on Twitter that he didn’t know anything about the show’s development and only heard about it the same way most fans did.
“Dude. Happy for you. Wish I heard about this some way other than Twitter. I’m excited to watch, but bummed that Sam Winchester had no involvement whatsoever.” Padalecki tweeted on Friday.

The tweet caught many Supernatural fans by surprise given the two actors' close friendship, a fan thought Jared was joking with his tweet, with one fan tweeting, "this has GOTTA be a bad joke… this ain't it sirs we're freaking out."
However, Padalecki affirmed that he wasn't joking, replying to the tweet with a message reading, "No. It's not. This is the first I've heard about it. I'm gutted."
