UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is heading to the United States for meetings with President Joe Biden and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, to hammer out a major defense deal.

Sunak minister will arrive in San Diego on Sunday night to discuss Australia's purchase of nuclear-powered submarines under the AUKUS agreement, according to British news agency BA Media today.

Albanese is expected to announce a plan for a British-designed fleet, with the purchase of American boats, as a stop-gap measure.

While off the US West Coast on Monday, the British prime minister is also set to unveil the new Integrated Defense and Foreign Policy Review, which has been updated in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The new review will define the UK's approach to threats from Moscow and an increasingly assertive China.

Ahead of his visit, Sunak stated that in turbulent times, the UK's global alliances are the greatest source of strength and security.
