According to authorities in Mogadishu, a suicide bomber blew himself up inside a tea shop in Mogadishu's Wadajir area on Tuesday evening, killing at least 10 people and injuring numerous others.
Over the phone, Dadir Hassan, a police officer in Mogadishu's capital, told Anadolu Agency that the suicide bomber targeted a busy tea shop near a big military base.
"It is early to announce the actual number of people who were killed or wounded in the attack but so far we know that at least 10 people including soldiers were killed," Hassan said.
Several persons were also injured in the suicide attack, the majority of them were civilians, and they were brought to hospitals for treatment, he said.
Security forces from several government agencies went to the area, according to the police officer, and investigations are presently continuing.
Although no group has claimed credit for the Mogadishu suicide assault on Tuesday evening, authorities believe it was carried out by al-Shabaab terrorists.
Al-Shabaab, an al-Qaeda branch, was responsible for a truck-bombing attack in Mogadishu in October 2017 that killed 600 people, making it the biggest attack in the country's history.
